Sante Pour Tous/Health For All
Description:
Jefferson Park Ministries, in conjunction with its collaborators, Literacy Volunteers of Union County and Trinitas Hospital will adapt the SHINE health literacy model for cultural relevance to the Haitian adult population to serve Union and Essex County adult immigrant Haitians with low literacy or limited English proficiency in their native language of Creole. The initiative encompasses: training of approximately 150 health professionals about Haitian culture and beliefs and communication barriers; providing 25 five session cycles of health literacy education to adult Haitian immigrants, focusing on accessing health care and communicating with health care staff and learning about symptoms, diseases and medications; and outreach to Haitians through the Haitian Short Wave Radio system and churches.
