We Have the Power to Build a Healthier Camden County
February 16, 2017

In every community, aspects of daily life account for 70 percent of our health. Based on the old wisdom about an ounce of prevention, the goal is to keep people from going into the hospital by improving “upstream” conditions outside the hospital, including access to transportation and other environmental, social and economic factors. Achieving this goal is critical in preventing illness and reducing healthcare costs in Camden County, where statistics indicate one of the highest rates (69 percent) of preventable hospital stays in all of New Jersey.

NJHI Director Bob Atkins explains in today’s commentary for the Courier-Post, why NJHI is excited to support the BUILD Health Challenge to accelerate this work.
