Amid the COVID-19 crisis, Comite de Apoyo a los Trabajadores Agricolas (CATA) is leading this project to address the immediate personal protective equipment (PPE) needs of the Latino community, particularly farmworkers in South Jersey. Crowded living, working and transportation conditions in the community can put agricultural, food processing and service workers, and that of their families, at risk for contracting COVID-19. CATA has identified that workers use PPE during the work day, but do not have access to PPE in the camps where they live or for shopping in the community. To address the need for PPE and mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus, CATA is conducting outreach and distributing masks and gloves at farm labor camps and in low-income communities. In addition, CATA is expanding its COVID-19 educational campaign to include videos that support the visual learning needs of the community. By the end of this project, CATA will have advanced the existing response efforts in the state, which can inform an equitable recovery throughout New Jersey.
