Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are collaborating with other community agencies, primarily in Middlesex and Somerset Counties, in a project entitled: Hospitals Collaborating to Assess and Address Changing Community Health Needs. A multi-pronged strategy to collect quantitative and qualitative data will be used to engage the community. Methodologies will include: focus groups; community forums; key informant interviews; partnering with county health departments and community-based organizations; and use of technology such as the internet and social networking. The project will identify priority health needs and, for each of the identified health needs, will develop, along with community input, a detailed implementation plan that includes short and long term goals and measurable objectives that are realistic and achievable. Expected outcomes include: 1) a better understanding of community health needs; 2) a firm knowledge of the scope of existing resources; 3) more targeted services addressing the top priority needs identified by the community; and 4) better coordination of services.
