The Community Foundation of South Jersey, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, is leading the two-year Transform South Jersey project to increase social cohesion and build community capital in five south Jersey communities with the goal of strengthening their social, cultural and economic vibrancy. The five communities are:

  • Downe Township
  • Hammonton
  • Salem
  • Willingboro
  • Winslow Township

Through this project, residents and leaders in each of these communities will participate in the Orton Family Foundation’s Community Heart & Soul model. In this four-phase process, members of each community will identify partners, build relationships, determine options for the future and work together to develop projects they care about for years to come. They will receive funding and training from the Community Foundation of South Jersey and the Orton Family Foundation to complete the process and establish a locally controlled community endowment fund to support the strategies that result from the Heart & Soul process.

By the end of the Transform South Jersey initiative, Downe Township, Hammonton, Salem, Willingboro and Winslow Township will join more than 80 Community Heart & Soul projects throughout the nation that are creating resident-driven community change.

Transform South Jersey is made possible with additional support from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, the OceanFirst Foundation, the Orton Family Foundation and the Wells Fargo Regional Community Development Corporation.
