Walk with a Doc in Hunterdon

NJHI 2016: Building a Culture of Health in New Jersey – Communities Moving to Action, Round 2 Motivating Culture Change for a Healthier Tomorrow

Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates – a sponsor of the Partnership for Health’s Healthy Hunterdon Workforce Initiative – hosted the Walk With A Doc program last fall. One of their physicians, Dr. Lind, opened the event with an informative talk about exercise and the long-term benefits. Then the physicians, staff and twenty-two patients went on a three-mile walk through the community. Not only did this benefit their patients, but it benefited their employees as well! The practice has announced plans to host this event regularly to motivate their patients to exercise more routinely.

Walk with a Doc is a program that began with a physician who was frustrated with his patients’ lack of physical activity. He invited his patients to come for a walk with him on a Saturday and more than 100 of his patients showed up.  From there, a program model was formed and adopted across the U.S.. The mission of the Walk With A Doc program is “to encourage healthy activity in people of all ages and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.”

We’ve seen the impact these businesses have experienced by investing in their employees’ well-being, both physically and emotionally.

As a coalition partner, Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates’ core value is improving the health of their employees and the community at large. The Walk With A Doc program hosted by the practice goes hand in hand with the Healthy Hunterdon Workforce Initiative. Christine Sabatino, Practice Administrator of Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates said, “Sponsoring the Healthy Hunterdon Workforce Initiative has had a lasting impact on our organization for several reasons; we’ve had the opportunity to witness the many success stories provided by the participants who made a commitment to building a Culture of Health and wellness in their organization. We’ve seen the impact these businesses have experienced by investing in their employees’ well-being, both physically and emotionally. They’ve improved morale, helped employees make positive changes in their lives, and in the process, significantly improved their staff members’ lives in intangible ways.”

Hunterdon Cardiovascular Associates is a member of the Partnership for Health, part of Hunterdon County’s Healthy Community Initiative. With similar values and goals, the Partnership for Health is comprised of nearly 60 multi-sector organizations that promote the health and well-being of Hunterdon County residents.

We all share one common goal – to build a Culture of Health in the community. Working together, we WILL make it happen! #SmallChangesBigImpact
